Bridle Trails State Park
28 miles of dedicated equestrian trails winding through 482 acres of second-growth forest
Know Before You Go
Bridle Trails State Park is a unique urban forest gem — one of the few state parks in Washington dedicated entirely to equestrian use. The trail system is a network of interconnected loops, making it easy to customize your ride or walk for any distance.
The park sits between Bellevue and Kirkland, easily accessible from the surrounding neighbourhoods. Most trails are well-marked and packed with soft footing ideal for horses and hikers alike.
Trail Highlights
North Loop
EasyA gentle, well-groomed loop ideal for new riders and young horses. Winds through towering Douglas firs with dappled light year-round.
South Ridge Trail
ModerateA rewarding trail with gentle elevation changes and glimpses of the Cascade foothills on clear days. Popular for longer training rides.
Fern Hollow
ScenicA lush, narrow corridor dense with sword ferns and cedar. A favourite in all seasons — magical in morning mist and golden in autumn.
Trail Etiquette
Bridle Trails is a shared space. A little courtesy goes a long way in keeping the trails enjoyable and safe for everyone — riders, hikers, and wildlife alike.
Horses Have Right of Way
Hikers should yield to horses. Step to the side calmly and speak softly to let the horse know you're there.
Keep Dogs Leashed
Dogs must be on a leash at all times. An off-leash dog can startle horses and create dangerous situations for everyone on the trail.
Leave No Trace
Pack out everything you bring in. Dispose of manure off the main trail when possible and help keep the forest pristine for all.
Keep Noise to a Minimum
Loud music and sudden sounds can spook horses and disturb wildlife. Keep the forest peaceful for everyone who shares it.
No Motorised Vehicles or Cyclists
The park is closed to all motorised vehicles and bicycles. Bridle Trails is dedicated to equestrians and hikers only, preserving the soft footing and safety of the trail surface year-round.
Be Friendly
A wave and a smile cost nothing. The Bridle Trails community is a welcoming one — say hello and enjoy the shared love of this special place.
Trails Through the Seasons
Spring
Wildflowers emerge along the trail edges. Expect soft, muddy footing after winter rains — perfect for slow, scenic rides as the forest wakes up.
Summer
The park's dense canopy keeps trails cool even on warm days. Peak season for community rides, trail events, and long weekend outings.
Autumn
The forest turns gold and amber. Cool, crisp air makes for invigorating rides. One of the most beautiful times to explore Bridle Trails.
Winter
Rain is part of Pacific Northwest trail life. Many riders prefer winter for the quiet solitude and misty forest atmosphere — bring waterproofs!
